June 13, 2025 – <\/b>In many of the areas where we operate, especially in rural Uganda, the digital age has been slower to develop than in many societies. A lack of infrastructural development and a struggling economy has left many villages with little access to the outside world, few opportunities for the development of digital skills, and a real need for external help for supporting the development of socio-economic stability. This is why at WPDI we have made it our mission to set up targeted ICT training programs for youths, community leaders and educators at our network of Community Learning Centers (CLCs), around Uganda and beyond, but also in local schools.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

These centers provide local communities access to computers and training that would otherwise be unattainable. In this vein, this month we conducted an ICT training program for teachers at Atyang Primary School as part of our ongoing mission to promote digital literacy in Uganda’s Acholi sub-region. Thirty educators took part in the experience, gaining essential digital skills that are now reshaping the way they teach, communicate, and manage classroom activities.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"ICT<\/p>\n

For Ochan David Felix, the training was a revelation: <\/span>\u00ab\u00a0The ICT training opened up a new world for me. I previously struggled with digital communication, but after learning proper email usage and etiquette, I now communicate effectively and professionally. Using Google Docs has also simplified my administrative tasks. I’m grateful to WPDI for equipping us with these essential skills.\u00a0\u00bb<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

\"ICT<\/p>\n

Similarly, Aciro Lucy Rose shared how the training is supporting her personal transformation: <\/span>\u00ab\u00a0Participating in this ICT training was transformational for me. Initially, I found computers intimidating, but the practical sessions on Google Documents and email communication made technology approachable. Now, I can comfortably integrate these skills into my daily teaching. This experience has greatly improved my confidence. Thank you WPDI.\u00a0\u00bb<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

\"ICT<\/p>\n

In parallel, we also launched an ICT holiday training program for school-going youths in the region. Running from May 5th to 22nd at the Community Learning Center, this initiative provided 20 students from local primary and secondary schools with foundational training in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Publisher.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"ICT<\/p>\n

The youth program focused on hands-on experience in typing, formatting, editing, and designing documents, equipping students with practical digital skills. By emphasizing real-world application, the training aims to enhance students’ academic performance and prepare them for future educational and career opportunities that require ICT proficiency.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

These efforts underscore our deep commitment to nurturing digital skills across all age groups in the Acholi sub-region, Uganda and beyond. By empowering both educators and youth with essential ICT tools, our aim is to lay a strong foundation for a more connected, informed, and capable generation, able to connect to the world and build economic stability for themselves and their communities.<\/span><\/p>\n
