April 2, 2026<\/b> \u2013 Around the world, reliable internet access has become essential for learning, work, and human connection. In today\u2019s digital age, connectivity is no longer a luxury; it is a critical infrastructure. This is especially true for vulnerable communities in conflict-affected regions. In countries such as Uganda and South Sudan, communities continue to experience the lasting impacts of prolonged conflict and displacement. Many face persistent challenges, including limited infrastructure and restricted access to education and economic opportunities. In these contexts, reliable internet access plays a vital role. It enables learning, strengthens communication, supports entrepreneurship, and provides access to critical information, opening pathways where opportunities are otherwise scarce.<\/span><\/p>\n

To address this, WPDI has partnered with SES to bring high-speed satellite connectivity to our Community Learning Centers. In Uganda, our centers in Gulu, Moroto, and the Kiryandongo Refugee Settlement now benefit from faster, more reliable connectivity. In South Sudan, our eight centers in the Equatoria region have also gained reliable access.<\/p>\n

Why Connectivity Matters
\n<\/b>WPDI\u2019s CLCs serve as hubs for education, skills training, and community engagement. With satellite internet, we can expand digital literacy programs, connect learners across regions, support local entrepreneurs, and enhance coordination among centers. For the youth, women, and community members who rely on WPDI’s CLCs, dependable connectivity strengthens their ability to learn, innovate, and participate in an increasingly digital world. This installation is not about bringing opportunity from the outside; it is about unlocking and amplifying the potential that already exists within these communities. At the end of 2025, <\/span>WPDI and SES were recognized at the Africa Tech Festival, receiving the Changing Lives Award <\/span><\/a>\u00a0for their work expanding digital access for vulnerable communities.<\/span><\/p>\n

Across Uganda and South Sudan, learners, trainers, and leadership are already seeing the impact of reliable connectivity.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00ab\u00a0I see the installation of SES’s satellite internet as a transformative step toward our digital development goals across all Community Learning Centers. This connectivity will strengthen coordination among centers, enhance online learning delivery, and expand access to global digital resources. We anticipate building a more connected and capable network of learners and innovators who can drive meaningful change in their communities.\u00a0\u00bb<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

However, with the deployment of internet connectivity from SES, our CLCs across the three states of the Equatoria region have taken the experience at the CLCs to a whole different level. With connectivity, learning, research, communication, and experience sharing have become seamless across areas.
