May 19, 2023 – WPDI\u2019s global reach and ability to foster real change at the grassroots level is possible thanks to a wide and inclusive network of partners, local activists and empowered youths. In order to successfully implement programs for these actors aimed at creating conditions for lasting peace and sustainable development, WPDI believes in creating hubs for information and knowledge where local stakeholders and trainees can learn and communicate. This strategy to facilitate underprivileged communities\u2019 access to information, knowledge, and the Internet led to the formation of a global network of Community Learning Centers<\/a> (CLCs) in the communities where we have deployed branches of the Youth Peacemaker Network. Over the past decade, we have established 15 such CLCs in South Sudan, Mexico, Uganda, and South Africa. Together, they receive more than 200,000 visits per year.<\/p>\n

\"\"WPDI was therefore delighted to expand this global network this week with the official opening of our CLC in Aubervilliers, a town in the Seine-Saint-Denis department, just north of Paris, France. Seine-Saint-Denis is the poorest area of metropolitan France, according to Insee<\/a>, the country\u2019s office of national statistics, and has long suffered from underfunded public services and infrastructure. The area has come to symbolize the economic stagnation rife in certain areas of the country, with more than a quarter of its residents (28.6%) living below the poverty line. In Aubervilliers, this rate is at 44%. <\/a>As part of our strategy to deploy programs on the ground at the closest of our beneficiaries, we have set up this center to provide free access to courses for youths, women and other vulnerable groups, focusing on ICT, Entrepreneurship and Conflict Resolution.<\/p>\n

WPDI has teamed up with local associations, civil society actors and local administrations to launch programs aimed at fostering positive social innovation and transformation. This collaboration allows our team at the CLC to adapt programs to meet the specific needs of the local community.<\/p>\n

At the official launch this week, our CEO and founder Forest Whitaker was joined by Karine Franclet, the mayor of Aubervilliers, Olivier Klein, Minister Delegate of Cities and Housing, St\u00e9phane Troussel, President of the Seine-Saint-Denis department, as well as Antoine Sire and Vanessa Bouquillion of BNP Paribas, our main partner for the program. \u201cIt is with great pleasure that I welcome everyone of you to the WPDI Community Learning Center of Aubervilliers – a place for learning and a place for gathering in a spirit of peace and fraternity,\u201d <\/i>said Forest Whitaker.<\/p>\n

After the official launch at the CLC, an event was held at Le Point Fort d\u2019Aubervilliers, with the different stakeholders given the opportunity to speak about their involvement in the project and a group of beneficiaries were able to discuss the real-life impact the CLC has had on the community since its inception at the beginning of the year.<\/p>\n

All the participants reaffirmed their commitment to fostering the development and strengthening of programs in the area and working collaboratively to transform local communities and give marginalized groups a better chance at thriving in what is one of the most diverse and vibrant communities in the greater Paris region.<\/p>\n

19 mai 2023 – La port\u00e9e mondiale de WPDI et sa capacit\u00e9 \u00e0 cr\u00e9er un v\u00e9ritable changement au niveau local sont possibles gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 un r\u00e9seau large et inclusif de partenaires, d’activistes locaux et de jeunes engag\u00e9s. Afin de mettre en \u0153uvre les programmes destin\u00e9s \u00e0 ces acteurs et visant \u00e0 cr\u00e9er les conditions d’une paix et d’un d\u00e9veloppement durables, la WPDI croit en la cr\u00e9ation de centres d\u2019apprentissage et de formation o\u00f9 les membres de la communaut\u00e9 peuvent apprendre et communiquer. Cette strat\u00e9gie visant \u00e0 faciliter l’acc\u00e8s des populations d\u00e9favoris\u00e9es \u00e0 l’information, au savoir et \u00e0 internet, a conduit \u00e0 la formation d’un r\u00e9seau mondial de centres d’apprentissage communautaires (Community Learning Centres) dans les endroits o\u00f9 nous avons d\u00e9ploy\u00e9 des antennes du r\u00e9seau des jeunes leaders (Youth Peacemaker Network). Au cours de la derni\u00e8re d\u00e9cennie, nous avons cr\u00e9\u00e9 15 centres de ce type au Mexique, en Afrique du Sud, en Ouganda et au Soudan du Sud. Au total, ils re\u00e7oivent plus de 200 000 visites par an.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Nous sommes donc heureux de pouvoir \u00e9largir ce r\u00e9seau mondial cette semaine avec l’ouverture officielle de notre centre de formation \u00e0 Aubervilliers, une ville situ\u00e9e dans le d\u00e9partement de la Seine-Saint-Denis, au nord de Paris. La Seine-Saint-Denis est le d\u00e9partement le plus pauvre de la France m\u00e9tropolitaine, selon l’INSEE, et souffre depuis longtemps d’un manque de financement des services publics et des infrastructures. Elle est devenue le symbole de la stagnation \u00e9conomique qui s\u00e9vit dans certaines r\u00e9gions du pays, avec plus d’un quart de ses habitants (28,6 %) vivant sous le seuil de pauvret\u00e9. \u00c0 Aubervilliers, ce taux atteint 44 %. Dans le cadre de notre strat\u00e9gie visant \u00e0 d\u00e9ployer des programmes sur le terrain au plus pr\u00e8s de nos b\u00e9n\u00e9ficiaires, nous avons mis en place ce centre afin de fournir un acc\u00e8s gratuit \u00e0 des cours pour les jeunes, les femmes et d’autres groupes vuln\u00e9rables, en mettant l’accent sur les l\u2019entrepreneuriat, l\u2019informatique et la communication efficace.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

WPDI s’est associ\u00e9 \u00e0 des associations locales, des acteurs de la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 civile et des administrations locales pour lancer des programmes visant \u00e0 encourager l’innovation et la transformation sociales positives. Cette collaboration permet \u00e0 notre \u00e9quipe au centre d’adapter les programmes pour mieux r\u00e9pondre aux besoins sp\u00e9cifiques de la communaut\u00e9 locale.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Apr\u00e8s le lancement officiel au centre, un \u00e9v\u00e9nement a suivi au Point Fort d’Aubervilliers, o\u00f9 les diff\u00e9rentes parties prenantes ont eu l’occasion de parler de leur implication dans le projet et o\u00f9 un groupe de b\u00e9n\u00e9ficiaires a pu discuter de l’impact r\u00e9el que le centre a eu sur la communaut\u00e9 depuis sa cr\u00e9ation, au d\u00e9but de l’ann\u00e9e.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Tous les participants ont r\u00e9affirm\u00e9 leur engagement \u00e0 favoriser le d\u00e9veloppement et le renforcement des programmes dans la r\u00e9gion et \u00e0 travailler en collaboration pour transformer les communaut\u00e9s locales et donner aux groupes marginalis\u00e9s une meilleure chance de prosp\u00e9rer dans ce qui est l’une des communaut\u00e9s les plus diverses et les plus dynamiques de la r\u00e9gion parisienne. <\/span><\/p>\n
