June 3, 2024 –<\/b> At WPDI, we understand that education is more than about imparting knowledge\u2014it is a catalyst for behavioral change, especially in communities grappling with instability and economic challenges. In the heart of Uganda’s Kiryandongo Refugee Settlement, our commitment to fostering lasting peace takes shape through a number of tailored initiatives, including our innovative teacher conflict resolution training program.<\/span><\/p>\n

By equipping teachers with transformative skills to address conflict and tensions, we are not just enhancing academic outcomes but are also sowing the seeds of harmony and resilience in a community deeply affected by hardship.<\/span><\/p>\n

In March 2024, a training program took place at the Settlement, focusing 50 teachers from five schools spanning refugee and host communities. This initiative empowered the teachers with conflict transformation skills, fostering peaceful coexistence within schools and communities. Each participant received a certificate of attendance following three days of intensive training at their respective schools.<\/span><\/p>\n

Participants and local community leaders enthusiastically highlighted the transformative nature of the training. <\/span>\u201cWPDI teacher training is one of the most valuable and loved programs in the Kiryandongo district, especially in the refugee settlements where the beneficiaries such as teachers demonstrate knowledge in conflict transformation and management that has significantly contributed to creating a conducive environment for our learners and general communities,\u201d<\/span><\/i> said Emmanuel Turygyenda, Settlement Commandant.<\/span><\/p>\n

Our teacher training program is not merely about improving educational standards\u2014it is a platform for raising the capacity of the community to progress towards improved stability and prosperity. As we reflect on the ground-breaking journey of empowering educators with conflict resolution skills, we can witness the ripple effects of positive change extending far beyond the confines of the classroom.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
