December 11, 2023 – WPDI is delighted to announce that we have teamed up with the Inter-American Foundation, who will be supporting our Peacebuilding initiatives focused on youths in underprivileged communities in Chiapas, Mexico, for the next three years.
The partnership is set to further empower and guide youths from urban and rural communities in Chiapas in the framework of our existing Conflict Resolution Education and Business and Entrepreneurship programs in the area. These programs are enhancing their capacity to foster and disseminate a culture of peace within their local communities.
Over the next few years we will provide comprehensive training to young indigenous and mixed individuals, encompassing skills development, leadership training, peer-to-peer learning exchanges, and communication campaign support, as well as seed capital for initiating youth-led social entrepreneurship projects.
Anticipated outcomes of this agreement include training 250 young Peacebuilders and social entrepreneurs, launching 12 social enterprises, implementing 12 youth-led peacebuilding projects, and indirectly impacting at least 4,900 community members. In addition, the partnership will procure computer equipment, office furniture, and a vehicle, assets that will remain the property of WPDI post-donation completion.
Training youths from underprivileged communities in Chiapas in Peacebuilding is paramount for long-term sustainable societal transformation. By imparting essential skills, leadership, and fostering a culture of peace, this partnership will not only empower these young individuals but also foster the emergence of a generation capable of effecting positive change. The ripple effect that we expect from this program will extend beyond personal growth, reaching their communities through social entrepreneurship and peace initiatives. Investing in the potential of Chiapas’ youth not only breaks the cycle of disadvantage but also seeds the foundation for a harmonious, resilient, and prosperous future for the region.
We are thankful to the Inter-American Foundation for their trust and support.
