September 29, 2026 – To close out the summer, 13 young people in Chiapas participated in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) training delivered by WPDI Mexico in partnership with a local nonprofit to the area, Sueniños A.C.

Currently training to become culinary technicians, the participants strengthened digital skills that can support their studies and future careers. For these young people from vulnerable backgrounds, access to technology training offers an opportunity to build their capabilities, expand their employment prospects, and contribute to the development of their communities.

The workshop connected digital learning with practical tasks, inviting participants to share that they learned how to create tables for recipes, prepare templates, print documents, and use Word and PDF tools.

For José David Velasco Díaz, one of the participants, the training offered new ways to approach tasks he had previously found challenging:

“I had some knowledge of technology, but there were still things I struggled with, like creating tables for a recipe or completing certain tasks. During the training, I discovered new tools and, above all, new ways of doing things. Now I know that this knowledge can help me in my job and also in my daily life. For me, learning to use technology better means having more tools for what I want to do in the future. I’d tell other young people to take advantage of these opportunities. It’s great to gain new knowledge and know that something as everyday as learning technology can help you get a job.”

Beyond building technical skills, the workshop encouraged participants to gain confidence through practice.

Another student, Romina Raquel Pérez reflected on how the experience changed her approach to learning: “Before this workshop, I had a hard time understanding some of the technology tools. During the training, I discovered that there were much simpler ways to do tasks that had previously seemed complicated to me. I learned things I can now use in my daily life, like creating templates and printing documents. But I also learned something else: that learning something new can be difficult at first, but with practice, it gets easier. That’s why I’d tell other young people not to be afraid to give it a try. Sometimes we think something is too hard, until we have the chance to learn and practice.”

And for Jorge Sebastián Pérez Tolelo, the workshop showed how digital tools make workplace collaboration easier:

“I knew a little about technology, but I didn’t have a complete grasp of it. The training made me realize that there’s still a lot to learn and that there are ways to make tasks easier. One thing I didn’t know how to do before was use Word and PDF tools. Now I can do that and use them to send reports much more easily. I think we should take advantage of these opportunities. Technology can be useful for school, work, and everyday life. There’s so much to learn, especially when we find tools that we can actually use.”

By complementing culinary training with practical digital skills, this collaboration between WPDI Mexico and Sueniños A.C., is helping participants prepare for the technical demands of their workplaces, opening the door to new opportunities as well.
